HARD TISSUE

hardtissue3Hard Tissue Immersion Course:

This advanced level, limited-attendance course is an “intensive immersion experience,” designed for clinicians who already have experience with intra-oral bone regeneration and peri-implant hard tissue augmentation and who are interested in expanding and elevating their scientific and clinical knowledge and improving their surgical skills related to performing intra-oral bone regeneration and state-of-the-art hard tissue implant site development procedures, in order to increase the level of success and implementation of these procedures in their clinical practices. This course is conducted in a highly interactive environment leading to a profound learning experience.

At the completion of this course, doctors should be able to:

  • Fully grasp the anatomic and biologic basis for performing intra-oral bone regeneration and other state-of-the-art hard tissue implant site development procedures.
  • Fully grasp the surgical principles and material science and tissue engineering concepts related to performing hard tissue augmentation procedures, to allow for restoration driven implant placement at complex sites with deficient alveolar ridges.
  • Use cone beam CT technology and planning software to minimize morbidity and maximize success with hard tissue implant site development.
  • Strategically select and sequence hard and soft tissue implant site development procedures as part of multidisciplinary management of complex dental implant reconstructions.
  • Understand the indications and limitations of various soft tissue flaps used for hard tissue implant site development.

At the completion of this course, doctors should also understand the indications, limitations, peri-operative patient management protocols and procedural details and nuances for performing the following hard tissue implant site development and intra-oral bone regeneration procedures at complex sites:

  • Harvesting, handling and immobilization of autogenous  corticocancellous block and particulate cortical and cancellous bone grafts in the oral cavity
  • Simultaneous implant placement with guided bone regeneration procedures for reconstruction of peri-implant bone defects contained within the alveolar housing
  • Lateral window and crestal sinus elevation and grafting procedures with immediate and delayed implant placement
  • Pre-implant hard tissue implant site development procedures:
    • Autogenous and allogeneic block and particulate grafts with GBR for horizontal and vertical augmentation
    • 3-D biologic bone grafting techniques for horizontal augmentation
  • Introductory osteotomy-interpostional graft techniques for horizontal and vertical augmentation
  • Introductory synergistic tissue engineering to active bone regeneration for reconstruction of complex horizontal and vertical alveolar ridge defects with delayed and simultaneous implant placement

Surgical assistants will receive training in the following areas:

  • Identifying patients who would benefit from the intra-oral bone regeneration and hard tissue implant site development procedures learned in this course
  • Patient consultation and case presentation
  • Informed consent
  • Operatory set up
  • Aseptic technique
  • Use of tissue engineering materials
  • Protocols for effective surgical assisting
  • Care and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment
  • Inventory control of supplies and materials
  • Peri-operative patient management, including placement and removal of periodontal dressings and adjustment and reline of provisional prosthesis

This course will help surgical assistants with implementation of the Sclar Center Clinical Patient Management Protocols learned in this course for successful management of patients who undergo complex intra-oral bone regeneration and hard tissue implant site development procedures.

Detail:
42 hours of CE credits are given for this 5-day course. Although no prerequisite is required for this course, participants are expected to already have substantial experience in dental implant surgery and intra-oral bone regeneration procedures and hard tissue implant site development as detailed in the Sclar Center Hard Tissue Intermediate and Advanced courses, or equivalent. Additionally, students should become familiar with the precourse reading materials that will be supplied in advance. Students are encouraged to make hotel arrangements at the nearby Sonesta Bayfront Hotel in Coconut Grove. Transportation to and from the Sclar Center will be provided.
